General facts about EDA and microelectronics
What exactly is EDA?
The acronym EDA stands for Electronic Design Automation. EDA is a key technology in microelectronics. It plays a decisive role in determining the success or failure of future chip design.
Microelectronics is the key technology of the information society, it produces ever smaller and more effective chips. This allows us to tackle growing technological challenges. In order to meet the necessary requirements, the chip producer needs a manufacturing technology and the equivalent design technology plus the necessary know how about systems and circuits. Since today manufacturing technology is well developed, successful designs mainly depend on design technology.
Design technology determines what methodology to use, what libraries to build or rebuild, and which tools to use. The automatized interplay of these three components is called EDA. It allows us to cope with circuit complexity, to increase the design productivity, and most of all to improve the design quality.
