The third edaForum was held at Dresden, Germany. Dresden, the capital of Saxony and the former residence of the Wettin dynasty, is a city of art and culture with magnificent buildings, many museums of world class as well as venues and ensembles with a rich tradition of theatre and music.
No book about the history of architecture can miss mentioning the Dresden Zwinger. The Frauenkirche, Semper Opera House and Royal Palace as well as many other historical monuments and ensembles determine the image of the city.
In December, it is a must to visit the famous »Striezelmarkt«, the oldest German Christmas fair, which attracts thousands of visitors every year.
Dresden has built up a reputation as a location for semiconductor business, where several companies established new locations. Additionally, with the new mask technology center AMTC, the co-operating companies have built the most modern plant of its kind world-wide, which is a model for further investments in nanoelectronics.
When it comes to putting on splendid celebrations, Dresden boasts remarkable traditions dating back centuries. A flourishing and extremely diverse festival culture has survived to the present day. The »Striezelmarkt«, the oldest German Christmas market (founded in 1434).

The Saxon State Orchestra cultivates Dresdens high reputation as a metropolis of opera at the historical site of the Semper Opera House. Another three ensembles of world renown represent Dresdens great musical history: the Saxon State Opera, the Dresden Philharmonic Orchestra and the Dresden Kreuzchor boys choir.
When it comes to putting on splendid celebrations, Dresden boasts remarkable traditions dating back centuries. A flourishing and extremely diverse festival culture has survived to the present day. The »Striezelmarkt«, the oldest German Christmas market (founded in 1434), the Dresden »Vogelwiese« (fun fair), which is over 400 years old, as well as the diverse Baroque court festivities during the period of Augustus the Strong established this tradition and continue to contribute to Dresden's European reputation as a city of celebrations and festivals to this day.

More than 30 institutes, among them establishments of the Fraunhofer Gesellschaft and Max Planck Society and the University of Technology, as well as many academies and colleges, are a visible sign of the citys innovative potential.
Since as early as the 18th century, Dresden has been shaped by a fruitful association of business and science.
Important inventions and developments resulted from this symbiosis. In 1708 Johann Friedrich Böttger developed the technique for making European porcelain here.
Engineer and university professor, Andreas Schubert, designed Germanys first steam engine in and the original Saxon paddle steamers which are a great attraction on the river Elbe today.
It was Dresden camera experts who developed the reflex camera, the panoramic camera and the stereo camera.
The Dresden University of Technology was founded in 1828 as the »Technische Bildungsanstalt Dresden« and is thus one of Germanys oldest technical colleges. Today, the Dresden region has the strongest engineering and natural sciences research and development sector in eastern Germany.
This is contributed to by the Dresden University of Technology (Technische Universität Dresden – TU Dresden), the University College of Applied Sciences (Hochschule für Technik und Wirtschaft – HTW), around 30 institutions and establishments of the Max Planck Society, the Fraunhofer Gesellschaft and the Leibniz Association, as well as around 2,000 people working in the research and development departments of various companies.
