Mission

The customer of future terminals for applications as the mobile internet expects reliable solutions with a high practical value at low cost. Therefore existing RF Design technology lacks in efficiency, especially, when entering new integration dimensions in new nano-scale process technologies.

Within the next five years the number of relevant wireless standards will further increase. Besides the support of higher datarates and more sophisticated modulation schemes (e.g. MIMO-OFDM) future transceivers have to provide also multi-standard functionality. The continuing rapid transceiver architecture evolution requires the reconsideration of existing work-flows, system architecture design and design kit functionalities. Competing system solutions for the telecommunication market can only be found, if the system design effort can be reduced and the reliability of the top-down design process can be improved at same time. With the support of the BMBF in the frame of the new initiative ‘Mobile Internet’ leading EDA-providers, Process foundries, RF design houses, system providers and research institutes have formed a community of interest and cooperate closely to find an inter-domain solution for this challenging task.

Within the wide field of design technology especially for mobile multimedia transceiver design the following areas have to be estabilished or improved:

The main objective of the project DETAILS is the development of an optimized RF-System design technology for future communication systems for cellular and non-cellular access.
